Sur Singar Samsad in association with Nanavati Performing and Fine Arts Forum has organised the 64th Swami Haridas Sammelan with the support from Ministry of Culture, Government of India has organised the three days festival of classical music, vocal and instrumental at Nanavati College Auditorium in Vile Parle West, Mumbai from 13 December to 15th December. Top musicians have been invited to perform.
On 13 December, the festival commences with Pune based Shehnai maestro Pt Shailesh Bhagwat, followed with the Hindustani vocal by veteran maestro Pt Vidyadhar Vyas. Shehnai is a rare wind instrument considered suitable for any festive or auspicious occasion, hence a fine start to the festival. The last performer of the first day will be the New Delhi based Sarod maestro Pt Prabhat Kumar.
The second day festival will commence with senior percussion maestro from Dombivali, KNP Nambisan, he will exhibit his expertise in instruments like mridangam, maddalam and edakka. The second performer of the festival will be Hindustani vocal recital by Pt Ramesh Jule and the last performers of the second day will an exciting jugalbandi with Violin and Sarangi, two stringed instruments known for its melodic quality by Pt Ratish Tagde and Ustad Farooq Latif Khan.
The last and final day of the festival commences with an enchanting flute recital by Pt Rupak Kulkarni, one of the foremost disciples of the veteran Pt Hariparasad Chaurasia. Ustad Maqbool Hussain and Ustad Zeeshan Khan will mesmerize the audience with Hindustani vocal music. The last performers of the festival will be Belabahar recital by Pt Babulal Gandharv and Navin Gandharv. Belabahar was invented in 1980 by Pt Babular Gandharv, it combines the technical and melodic qualities of the Violin, Sarangi and vocal music. The father son duo also performs at the India International Centre in New Delhi on December 12.
The soul of Sur Singar Samsad MK Patel said “Last year we had the festival with classical dances, hence this year we have only classical music and no dance. We are grateful to the Ministry of Culture, otherwise to manage the festival is not easy, moreover there is no corporate support”. The Chairperson of the Samsad is Bhajan Samrat Shri Anup Jalota and the comperes of the festival are Anand Singh and Narhari Acharya.
