Maalyada – Andal’s Sacred Garland

The Kamani Auditorium will echo with the devotional fervor of Andal’s timeless poetry as HCL Concerts presents Maalyada – Andal’s Sacred Garland, a mesmerizing Bharatanatyam production that merges literature, music, and movement into a single sacred narrative. The much-anticipated performance is set to take place on Saturday, April 26, at 6:30 PM with free entry, inviting rasikas to immerse themselves in a spiritual and artistic experience unlike any other.

Adapted from the evocative book by author Jeysundhar D, Maalyada draws from the poetic universe of Andal, the 8th-century Tamil saint-poet revered in the Vaishnava tradition. Her verses—suffused with divine yearning and spiritual ecstasy—have transcended generations, finding fresh resonance through this innovative interpretation.

The evening will commence with Jeysundhar D himself, offering a glimpse into the soul of his book and the profound devotion of Andal. What follows is a choreographic marvel by none other than Rama Vaidyanathan, one of India’s most distinguished Bharatanatyam exponents. With her signature grace and depth, Rama will lead the performance alongside four of her talented disciples—Sayani Chakraborty, Reshika Sivakumar, Vaishnavi Dhore, and Shubhamani Chandrashekar—each weaving movement with meaning to embody Andal’s sacred verses.

Amplifying the emotive power of the dance is a stirring original score by celebrated vocalist and composer Sudha Raghuraman, performed live by a stellar ensemble including Raghuraman Govindarajan, Sumod Sreedharan, Himanshu Srivastava, and Sannidhi Vaidyanathan. The visual spectacle will be further enriched by Gaurav Sharma’s sensitive lighting design, heightening the spiritual ambiance of the evening.

Speaking about the production, Rama Vaidyanathan remarked, “Maalyada is more than a performance—it’s a surrender to the divine, a garland of devotion we offer to Andal through every movement and every note.”

As the sacred poetry of Andal unfolds through rhythm and raga, Maalyada – Andal’s Sacred Garland promises to be an unforgettable confluence of faith, feminine power, and classical artistry—one that pays homage to the eternal dialogue between the devotee and the divine.
