On the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day, Ganesa Natyalaya, in its Swarna Saroja (Golden Jubilee year) celebrations, presents VANITA – a captivating dance exploration delving into the lives of extraordinary women from Indic wisdom. Conceptualized by the esteemed Dr. Usha RK, VANITA is a tribute to the unparalleled qualities embodied by these remarkable women, celebrating their virtues through classical dance and music.
Scheduled to take place at the Ganesa Natyalaya auditorium in New Delhi at 6 PM, VANITA brings to life four distinct aspects of feminine strength and wisdom through the medium of Bharatanatyam. Four distinguished dancers will personify these exemplary qualities, offering a mesmerizing performance accompanied by live music.
The Four Aspects of VANITA:
- Viveka (Intellect and Spiritual Wisdom) – Portrayed by Shreyasi Gopinath, this segment embodies the essence of Maha Saraswati, symbolizing discernment and the power to distinguish between the transient and the eternal.
- Vinaya (Humility) – Nandini Ganesan takes the stage as Radha, representing a humility that stems from deep devotion and selfless love, free from both pride and self-deprecation.
- Veerya (Intellectual Fearlessness) – The indomitable spirit of Draupadi comes alive through Navia Natarajan’s performance, showcasing unwavering courage, boldness, and self-confidence in the face of adversity.
- Vicharaka (Power of Debate and Justice) – Sayani Chakraborty embodies the wisdom of Gargi, one of the earliest women philosophers of India, known for her unshakable intellect and ability to hold her ground in philosophical discourse.
Accompanying the dancers will be a stellar team of musicians, enhancing the narrative with live music. The ensemble includes Kalishwaran Pillai on Nattuvangam, Vidya Harikrishna on vocals, Abhishek Avadhani on Mridangam, and Uma Arun on the violin.

Speaking about the production, Dr. Usha RK shared, “VANITA is an artistic homage to the eternal virtues upheld by these iconic women in Indian philosophy. Through dance and storytelling, we wish to remind audiences of the powerful feminine qualities that continue to inspire us all.”
With free entry to all, VANITA promises an evocative evening of dance, devotion, and dialogue. Audiences are invited to witness this powerful celebration of feminine wisdom and grace, a performance that not only reveres the past but also resonates deeply with the contemporary world.
