Ganesa Natyalaya, a cornerstone of Bharatanatyam in India, is all set to mark its Golden Jubilee Annual Day on December 10, 2024, at the Delhi Tamil Sangam, starting at 6 pm. This monumental event commemorates 50 years of the institution’s dedication to preserving and propagating the ancient classical dance form.
Founded in 1974 by the legendary Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, a Padma Bhushan awardee, Ganesa Natyalaya began its journey with a handful of students. Over the decades, it has grown into a vibrant hub for Bharatanatyam, nurturing generations of dancers and upholding the rich cultural heritage of India. The Golden Jubilee Annual Day, aptly titled Swarna Saroja, will showcase performances by 125 students under the guidance of Ganesa Natyalaya’s expert teachers, who themselves are alumni of the institution. These teachers have been rigorously trained under the ATMANIRBHAR initiative, which equips them with the skills to achieve financial independence while remaining deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of Bharat, referred to as DHOROHAR.
The Golden Jubilee festivities began in March 2024 with Shivarghyaa, an event highlighting male dancers, and continued with 26 events hosted across India and abroad. Monthly performances at Ganesa Natyalaya and its affiliated schools worldwide brought the institution’s vision to a global audience. A standout highlight was NIMAGNA, a grand choreography by Ms. Rama Vaidyanathan featuring 25 senior disciples, performed at Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi to honor Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan’s birth anniversary on September 19, 2024.
