Chakradhar Kathak Mahotsav: Prominent Dancers to Enthrall Bhopal Audience

Annual Chakradhar Kathak Mahotsav is being organised on 27-28 January 2019 at Bhopal in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This prestigious festival has been organised by Vrinda Kathak Kendra in the memory of late Raja Chakradhar Singh the founder of Raigarh Gharana of Kathak.

Raja Chakradhar Singh evolved Raigarh Gharana by inviting maestros of Kathak of Jaipur, Lucknow and Banaras gharana along with renowned Tabla and Pakhawaj players in his court. He wrote many granths/books based on Taal, Raag, Kathak, etc. He evolved a new style of Kathak dance in his state Raigarh (now in Chhattisgarh) thus as Raigarh Gharana.

Besides solo kathak by Bhopal based V. Anuradha Singh, K. Murali Mohan and Nandini K. Mehta of Bangalore will be presenting duet performance on 27th January. V. Anuradha Singh is a disciple of late Pt. Kartikram ji, who was a senior renowned performer in the court of Raja Chakradhar Singh. Anuradha is Outstanding catagory empanelled solo Kathak Exponent of ICR Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.

On 28th January, renowned Kathak exponent from Mumbai Dr Tina Tambe and Rujuta Soman of Pune will present solo recitals. Dr Tina Tambe is an A Grade artist of Doordarshan and one of the leading internationally acclaimed Kathak exponents of today’s generation. She is also a TED Speaker and scholar of kathak having Nritya Alankar, M.A. and PhD to her credit. Pune based Rujuta Soman is a disciple of late Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate and runs Rujuta Soman Cultural Academy.

On inaugural day (27th Jan), the Chief Guest will throw thoughts on the “Role of Indian women in cultural set up”.

The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and the entry is open for all.
