Shambavi School of Dance, Bengaluru has organised the two days Dance Jathre Festival at Ravindra Kalakshetra, JC Road, Bangalore on Saturday 8th February and Sunday 9th February. One of the most popular dance festivals in Bangalore, Dance Jathre is unlike most festivals, as it is not only performances but something more than that for artists and everyone interested in knowing the varied aspects and implications of performing arts.
Shambhavi is headed by renowned Kuchipudi exponent, mentor and impresario Vyjayanthi Kashi, who is the soul of the festival and Dance Jathre is organised once in every two years, with some support from local organisations and the Government of India. Vyjayanthi says “We professional dancers rarely get a chance to interact with other performers but Dance Jathre moves forward in this direction where dancers and non-dancers also learn and observe as to what dancers in different styles, maybe folk or contemporary could do. We have workshops in different styles dealing in varied aspects and perspectives of the performing arts which otherwise is a rare find. We all work in our own spheres but to mingle and know what others are doing is extremely interesting and exciting”.
The two days festival has workshops and competitions for junior and senior students of dance. besides the dance exhibition and performances in the evening by professionals in different styles. The first day after the inauguration will be the duet Bharatanatyam performance by Satyanarayana Raju and Soundarya Srivatsa, followed by Odissi by Meera Das and team, the last performer of the first day would be Maneesha Sathe and her team in the Kathak style.
The second day would be quite exciting as the prize winners of the competition both in the solo and group category would perform beside the Kuchipudi performance by Vyjayanthi Kashi and her team of talented dancers and Bharata Natyam by Vaibhav Arekar and his team from Mumbai.
The admission is free so those of you in and around Bengaluru, do not miss this unusual and unique festival.
