Dombivli is a far away suburb, closer to Thane but quite a distance from Mumbai city but surprisingly Dombivli is culturally quite active, as several students are learning classical music and dance and there are programmes organised too. There are a handful of dance teachers who are devoted too, the two styles that dominate the scenario are Bharata Natyam and Kathak.
Accomplished Kathak exponent Dheerendra Tiwari from New Delhi will conduct a three-day Kathak workshop commencing on 19th April at Shivaji Balak Mandir in Dombivli(E). The workshop is organised and assisted by another talented Kathak exponent Anupriya Mukherjee. Both Dheerendra and Anurpriya are the disciples of renowned Kathak exponent Rajendra Gangani.
Dheerendra Tiwari was the resident artist in South Korea and has several performances to his credit in various prestigious festivals both in India and abroad. Due to the phenomenal success of his workshop that was conducted in November last year, more students have come forward to learn the intricacies of the Kathak dance form,
Dheerendra says “Kathak Kendra the foremost Kathak academy in India, offers training (taalim) that is substantial, intricate and moves further by instructing the finer aspects of dance. With my experience of learning and performing for 17 years, I am happy to teach young aspirants the intricate and aesthetic quality of dancing. I am happy with the response and am told more students have come forward to learn which is quite encouraging and satisfying for me.”
Anupriya has recently moved to Dombivli and has also organised a performance by Dheerendra Tiwari and herself on May 31st at Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium in Thane which will be graced by the presence of the veteran mentor Rajendra Gangani who is considered the torchbearer of the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak dance.
