Gita Mahatmyam and Paika Bidroha marks the Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav inaugural evening

The 15th Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav jointly organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, Orissa Dance Academy and Art Vision unveiled a scintillating evening for its audience with the majestic Dhauli Stupa in the background.

The three-day festival boasts of cultural multiplicity and a whole range of diverse stream of performing arts, be it classical, folk or martial. The penultimate objective of the Mahotsav (Festival) is to preserve, promote and popularize the heritage at the national and international level.

The inaugural presentation “Gita Mahatmyam” by the dancers merged the ideas from the Gita. It was choreographed by Aruna Mohanty.

It was followed by the popular Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance “Paika Bidroha”, performed by Mayur Art Centre, Bhubaneswar.

The rhythmic footwork and the flexible movements dominated the evening.

Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Odisha Tourism said, “It is hypnotically lovely to watch the dancers perform with the majestic Dhauli stupa in the background. To see the packed audience being mesmerised is motivation and encouragement for us as organisers.”

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Prof. Ganeshi Lal, His Excellency, Governor of Odisha; Shri Subas Pani, Former Chief Secretary, Odisha; Dr. Lalit Mansingh; Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Tourism and Guru Aruna Mohanty, Secretary, Orissa Dance Academy. The programme was compared by Anuja Tarini Mishra and Dr. Srinivas Ghatuari.
