After a hiatus caused by the pandemic, the much-awaited Ninad Concert Series, an initiative of Ninad Center for Performing Arts, is set to resume with its 22nd show on October 12th, 2024, at the Sathaye College Auditorium, Vile Parle (East), Mumbai. This concert marks a significant milestone in the journey of Ninad, which has been tirelessly working towards preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Indian classical dance and music since its inception in 2010 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Tina Tambe, a renowned Kathak exponent and artistic director of Ninad Center for Performing Arts.

Dr. Tina Tambe’s contribution to the world of Kathak has been profound. As a leading artist and a torchbearer of the Jaipur Gharana, she has not only performed globally but has also taken significant strides in educating and mentoring the next generation of Kathak artists. Dr. Tambe’s performances are known for their intricate footwork, captivating expressions, and mastery over rhythm and storytelling. Through her performances and the Ninad Concert Series, she aims to bridge the gap between audiences and the classical arts, offering not only entertainment but also spiritual and emotional upliftment.

Reflecting on the series, Dr. Tina Tambe shared, “Ninad Concert Series is not just a platform; it is a movement to ensure that the fragrance of our classical heritage continues to reverberate for generations to come. We are committed to connecting audiences with the essence of Indian classical dance and music, which fosters joy and spirituality.”

This upcoming concert will feature a Kathak trio by Simantini Budukh, Aastha Bhatia, and Trisha Waghela, all talented disciples of Dr. Tina Tambe. The highlight of the evening will be Dr. Tambe’s solo performance, “Rasanayika,” which will showcase the Navarasas, the nine emotions of Indian classical aesthetics, through the fluidity and grace of Kathak.

Speaking about her performance, Dr. Tambe added, “Rasanayika is a special piece for me, as it allows me to express the depth of human emotions through the medium of dance. Kathak has a unique way of depicting stories, and I am excited to present this piece to the audience after such a long break.”

The concert series, which started as a monthly event in 2010, was a platform for both young and established artists to showcase their talent. In its first season, Ninad Concert Series hosted over 60 young dancers and nine established artists, presenting a variety of classical dance forms. Over the years, the series has also expanded to include workshops and interactive sessions, fostering learning and growth among upcoming artists. After its initial year, the series evolved into a quarterly event to accommodate more elaborate presentations and workshops.

Ms. Archana Gore, founder of Arch Enterprise, a well-known event management agency, has joined the series as a co-organizer this year. Her agency’s partnership with Ninad promises to bring a fresh perspective to the event. Ms. Gore expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Collaborating with Dr. Tina Tambe and Ninad Concert Series is an honor. We believe in the mission of promoting Indian classical arts, and this concert is a step towards ensuring that our cultural roots stay strong in the contemporary world.”

Shri Vineet Shreekant Gore will also be lending his voluntary support to ensure the smooth execution of this landmark event. Together, they aim to make this concert a memorable experience for both seasoned connoisseurs and those new to the world of Indian classical dance.

The Ninad Concert Series is a testament to Dr. Tina Tambe’s dedication to keeping Indian classical arts vibrant and relevant in today’s fast-paced world. With her vision, the series has not only provided a platform for artists to perform but has also fostered a deeper connection between the audience and the art forms.
