Percussionist Vidwan Chandramouli Dies at 70

Senior mridangam player B.K. Chandramouli died yesterday in Bengaluru at 70. He was diagnosed with liver disease cancer since couple of months.

One of the rare left-handed mridangists, Chandramouli was trained under maestros like Gopal Rao, Palghat Raghu and Ayyamani Iyer and considered as “Hero of Laya” in the state of Karnataka.

Chandramouli started accompaning well-known musicians when he was eight and accompanied four different generations of artistes. He was also involved in the establishment of the Karnataka Ganakala Parishath and was activly associated with the Tyagaraja Gana Sabha and the Malleswaram Sangeeta Sabha.
