Rasa Ranjini Festival in Bengaluru

Debnrutyam Studio (Bangalore) headed by Odissi exponent Debasish Pattnaik has organised the three days dance festival commencing from 16th August at Seva Sadan auditorium in Malleswaramin (Bangalore).

Rourkela based Odissi exponent Debasish Pattnaik is among the best dancers in the country, he has several performances to his credit, both in India and abroad as well. For the past few years, Debasish has established his own dance academy in Bangalore known as Debnrutyam Studio and conducts classes in Bangalore, Rourkela and Russia too besides organising dance festivals that attract the attention of dancers from India and abroad.

Debasish says “This year I have hardly received any corporate sponsorships but my devotion and concern for other artists have compelled me to take this bold step to organise a festival of this magnitude. The show must go on and that is important”.

The first day features the annual day programme of Debnrutyam studio wherein students would perform “Krishna Sharanam”, the second-day festival is known as Milita Utsav commencing with Odissi performance by veteran danseuse Padmashree Geeta Mahalik, followed with Mohiniattam by Bangalore based dancer Swapna Rajendrakumar. Odissi duet will be performed by Debasish Pattnaik and Leena Mohanty and the grand finale Kathak performance will by veteran mentor Mysore Nagaraj, an ardent disciple of the celebrated danseuse Maya Rao.

The Rasa Ranjini festival will be on the last day of the three festival will commence with the Odissi performance by SNA awardee Sangeeta Dash, followed with Kathak by Arpita Banerjee and Odissi by K Jyotimayee Pattnaik and Debnrutyam Ensemble. The festival will conclude with the Bharata Natyam performance by Thane based accomplished danseuse and mentor Lata Rajesh.

Lata Rajesh heads Nrityanjli dance academy in Thane and she will be accompanied by the dancers of the academy.

Esteemed guests of the three days festival include veteran Bharatanatyam exponent Dr Lalita Srinivasan, Padmashree Geeta Mahalik, Odissi exponent Leena Mohanty, senior critic Tapati Choudhari, writer and poet Anshu Harsh and Vijay Shanker (myself).

In fact, the Milita and Rasa Ranjini festival will feature four distinct classical dance styles of India, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Mohiniattam and Kathak. Do not miss this event as the entry is free.
