Revathi Ramachandran to head Kalakshetra

Kalakshetra, an 82 year old Institute of National Importance and an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture, Government of India will be now headed by Revati Ramachandran, a chennai based Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer.

Revathi will take over as Director of Kalakshetra with a tenure of three years. This position was vacant for last 10 months. Official order is expected to be released in coming week, said Ministry sources.

Revathi is disciple of Guru Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer, a Maestro of the Melattur style of Bharathanatyam and also learned Nattuvangam under Guru Bhagavatulu Sitarama Sharma, Veena under Smt. Kalpagam Swaminathan and Kuchipudi under Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam.

Founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale in 1936, Kalakshetra has a 100 acres campus in southern Chennai which hosts Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Besant Arundale Senior Secondary School and Besant Theosophical High School.
