Ustad Alla Rakha Khan – A Short Documentary
A 1989 Network East (British) broadcast of a biography of tabla virtuoso Ustad Alla Rakha Khan (aka Alla Rakha), perhaps best known to westerners for his years spent working with Ravi Shankar – his life story, the people with whom he played, a bit about his son and successor Zakir Hussain, his work as music director under the name of A.R. Qureshi, a short history of his instrument the tabla, and some examples of his work. And all in 10 minutes! He passed away in 2000.
