Legendary musician Padmavibhushan Pandit Jasraj passed away today at a New Jersy Hospital in the USA. He was 90.
Born on 28 January 1930, Pt Jasraj was an Indian classical vocalist of the Mewati gharana. His melodic profession crossed over 80 years and prompted various significant honors.
He was bestowed with Padma Shri (1975), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1987), Padma Bhushan (1990) and Padma Vibhushan (2000) besides many other prestigious awards.
International Astronomical Union (IAU) had named a minor planet, between Mars and Jupiter after ‘Pandit Jasraj’ as ‘Panditjasraj‘, which was discovered on November 11, 2006. (भारत के पहले संगीतकार जो चमकेंगे आसमान पर…)
