Kanaka Sabha Performing Arts Centre presented the Bharatanatyam Rangaprevesham by Ku. Prerna Ramnath at the Mysore Association auditorium in Matunga, Mumbai on Sunday 10th August. Prerna is the disciple of Guru Rajeshwari Nair and the daughter of Rema Ramnath and Ramnath S.

For Prerna dance is just not an art – it is a way of life. It touches her soul, helps her evolve as a person, and brings balance to her demanding medical career. As part of her future dance goals, she is aiming to integrate dance therapy into health care, using Bharata Natyam as a medium to foster emotional well being and holistic healing. Prerna’s journey is a testament to how art and science can beautifully coexist, each enriching the other.

Blessed with a striking personality, it was a pleasure to watch Prerna perform seven selected items from the Bharata natyam repertoire with comfortable ease and precision, winning the applause from the audience. Besides the Ganapati Aarti, traditional Alarippu, elaborate Krishna Varnam, the audience was excited to witness Majhe Maher Pandhari, abhang in praise of Lord Panduranga. While Bhagyadalakshmi incorporated the power and the glory of the goddess, it was thrilling to watch Prerna dance the Swati Thirunal Dhanasri Thillana with the precise execution of complex rhythm and stylized bodily movements. The highlight number was the grand finale Kavidu Chindu in praise of Lord Muruga with the typical folkish music and movements. The choreography of the programme was done by Dr Siri Rama.

The competent musical ensemble comprised of Dr Siri Rama for nattuvangam, Anupama Devarajan for vocal, Dakshinamurthy for mridangam, Kumar Krishnan for flute, Balasubramaniam for violin and Kaliswaran Pillai for side rhythm. If Prerna continues to dance with the same amount of passion and zeal, she can definitely aspire to be among the main ranks of dancers. The distinguished guests of the evening included Dr V Shankar of Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, Ravikumar Swaminathan of TVS Industrial and Logistics Parks and eminent arts critic Guru Vijay Shanker.
